Announcing the SDMX Global Discovery Service (GDS)
We are proud to announce the launch of the SDMX Global Discovery Service (GDS) — a major step forward in making SDMX metadata and data more Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable - FAIR Principles - GO FAIR
Available now at gds.sdmx.io the SGDS serves as the central catalogue of SDMX-compliant services worldwide. It enables organisations to share and reuse metadata, while always preserving information about the official source.
At launch, the GDS supports structure services, with data services to follow in 2026. Registration is free and open to all agencies hosting SDMX-compliant web services.
Visit the SGDS section for more detailsTo request your service is included in the SGDS email contact@sdmx.org
Making SDMX FAIR: The URN Resolver Service
Supporting the FAIR vision is the new SDMX URN Resolver Service, available at urn.sdmx.io.
This service ensures that every official SDMX URN can be resolved to the authoritative version of its structure — providing a stable, permanent link to trusted metadata across the global SDMX network.
The URN Resolver relies on the GDS to identify official sources, meaning that once an organisation registers its service with the SGDS, its metadata automatically becomes resolvable through urn.sdmx.io. Even if a web service’s location changes, the URN remains valid — ensuring long-term stability for systems and users referencing SDMX resources.
Why It Matters
- Increases efficiency: Helps organisations discover and reuse existing structures instead of creating new ones, reducing duplication and fragmentation.
- Improves data quality: Encourages harmonisation of concepts and structures across domains, making data easier to connect and compare.
- Expands visibility: When data services are added, the SGDS will serve as a central entry point for discovering datasets from across the SDMX community.
